According to the ILNA state-run news agency, as stated by a labor official close to the Iranian government, Iran’s market basket recently increased to 5 million tomans.
This is while the government refuses to raise wages to match the increasing inflation and high prices which has left ordinary Iranians in very difficult circumstance and poverty.
The December 17 report by ILNA said that ordinary Iranians were deprived of their basic living needs which has led to an increase of homeless people, trash scavengers, child laborers and malnutrition among Iranians.
In response to the government, various sectors of the society, including workers, teachers and nurses have in the past months held protests rallies in all Iranian cities.
According to an Iranian university professor close to the Iranian government, Iran “will witness more social riots” as a result of the spreading Iran poverty.
Saied Madani who spoke at a state sponsored Tehran University Iran poverty meeting said that “poverty stricken people will move towards rioting and bringing down unworthy governments.”
