Iranian teachers went on a nationwide strike today refusing to go to class. The strike was called by the Iranian Teachers Association from a few days before.
According to reports on social media, teachers in Tehran, Mashhad, Tabriz, Isfahan, Kermanshah, Ilam, Yasouj, Sanandaj, Hamedan, Amol, Zarin Shahr, Gonabad, Marivan, Sarvabad and Garmeh joined the strike today.
The striking Iranian teachers were protesting the sharp downfall of their purchasing abilities, low wages, the arrest of teacher trade unionists and the low quality of the teaching curriculum. Images on social media showed the striking teachers holding up signs with their demands written on them including the release of teacher prisoners.
Yesterday, the UK’s largest education union confirmed it’s support for Iranian teachers.
