Steelworkers' ninth day on protest, say we don't want a lousy governor
Only days away from Eid al-Fitr, a large number of workers from the National Steel Group protested again for the ninth day in Ahwaz. They formed a rally heading towards the offices of parliamentary members on Kianpars main street. Chants of “We do not want a lousy governor” could be heard on one uploaded video sent today.
A video sent by house construction labors in Ahwaz show an angry man telling new workers the government has been threatening them and made them work extra hours but in return when they retire nobody cares for them. Don’t listen to them, he says and warns the housing project directors are all liers. Workers in different cities are furious at how the state Sepidar Housing Project cannot deliver urban amenities or sanitary and held protests in Tehran and Kermanshah.
The construction industry of Iran is divided into two main sections. The first is government infrastructure projects, which are central for the cement industry. The second is the housing industry. In recent years, the construction industry has been thriving due to an increase in national and international investment to the extent that it is now the largest in the Middle East region.
