Shoushtar: Protesters close down financial institution for corruption
On Sunday, April 15, the customers of the state-run Arman-e-Vahdat financial institution in Shoushtar, Khuzestan, closed down the local branch of the organization. Arman-e-Vahdat is one of the many financial institution that have been at the center of a nationwide corruption scheme that is largely rooted in government officials. The customers of these organizations have lost billions of dollars worth of savings to these organizations.
Afterwards, the local residents splashed mud on the front of the office as a symbol of protest and representing the closing down of the branch. The protesters were chanting, “You’ve been lying to us for years!”
