Iranian police shot and killed two young motorcyclists on Friday, August 21 in Tehran because they did not show their driver’s license. According to the Human Rights News Agency, the two were stopped by the police in Shahriar in southern Tehran and asked to show their driving licenses. They tried to leave the scene and the police opened fire on them, killing Alireza Goudarzi on the spot. The second man, Alireza Jafarlu, was wounded but died due to the lack of medical treatment.
A source said, “It was 4 am and both were passing through Keshavarz Square, returning from a night of work at Jafarlu’s residence, where Goudarzi had carried out electrical work during the night. The police asked them for their driving license but since Jafarlu didn’t have his documents with him, he tried to leave the scene. The police immediately targeted their upper body. Goudarzi died instantly after they shot him in the back. Alireza Jafarlu was also hit in the back and shoulders. The bullet to his shoulder injured his lungs.”
Cuffed and beaten after being shot
The source continued, “The police handcuffed Jafarlu despite his wounds and started beating him with batons and kicked and punched him. Locals came to the scene and tried to help and take him to the hospital. Jafarlu asked for help and that he be taken to the hospital. The police threatened locals at gunpoint and said they would shoot anyone who came close.”
The ambulance came after 40 minutes, but Jafarlu had died. Their bodies were not given to their families, and they were told to wait for the forensics report.
The families filed complaints against the police, and it was said that the two police officers involved were detained. The two were said to be outside their jurisdiction at the time of the incident.
Twenty-five-year-old Alireza Jafarlu was a student and store owner. Alireza Goudarzi was 27 years old and worked as an electrician.

The Iranians regime’s security forces and police have a history of shooting and killing civilians. There are almost daily reports of police and border guards opening fire on Kurd border porters in western Iran and civilians carrying fuel in southeastern Iran. Iranian security forces carry out these shootings with impunity.
